Two teachers to represent CFISD in Region 4 recognition program

Feb. 25, 2025—Wells Elementary School third grade reading, language arts and social studies teacher Molly Maddux and Cypress Woods High School health science teacher Laura Anderson were selected as Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s teachers of the year and will represent the district at regional and statewide competitions for top teaching honors.

Both Maddux and Anderson were selected as the Teacher of the Year at their respective campuses and will be recognized at the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) Salute to the Stars ceremony on March 6 at the Berry Center.

Maddux was chosen as the CFISD Elementary Teacher of the Year.

“All my life, all I ever wanted to do was become a teacher,” Maddux said. “Coming from a family full of educators, a passion for teaching and learning was instilled upon me at a young age. Growing up in CFISD, I have experienced firsthand the magic of being taught by teachers who genuinely care about all students and deliver high quality instruction daily. I feel extremely fortunate to now have the opportunity to give back to the community that has invested so much in me. Receiving this recognition is an incredible honor that fills my heart with immense joy. I am truly living my dream.”

Anderson was chosen as the CFISD Secondary Teacher of the Year.

“It is an incredible honor to be named the Districtwide Secondary Teacher of the Year,” Anderson said. “As an educator, my passion lies in inspiring students to explore careers in healthcare while equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed beyond the classroom. This recognition reflects the dedication of my students, colleagues and the Cypress Woods High School and Cypress-Fairbanks communities, all of whom continuously strive for excellence. Teaching is more than a profession—it is a commitment to lifelong learning, mentorship and making a meaningful impact. I am grateful for the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare by empowering the next generation of professionals.”

Maddux and Anderson will be honored on Aug. 5 at the 36th annual Region 4 Education Service Center Teachers of the Year Ceremony at the Region 4 Education Service Center building. Maddux and Anderson will be candidates for Region 4 Teacher of the Year. Six finalists are chosen from the 40 regional winners and a Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year are selected. One is then chosen to represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year program.
